UEFA Champions League
Result: Chelsea 3-1 Sporting Lisbon
Date: 10 December 2014
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Chelsea maintained their unbeaten status in the UEFA Champions League Group G with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday.
The Blues won a penalty decision in the seventh minute when Filipe Luis beat a defender in the Sporting area before being fouled right in front of the referee. Cesc Fabregas took the responsibility for the spot kick and calmly waited for the goalkeeper to make a move before slotting the penalty down the middle.
The Premier League leaders were two goals clear in the 16th minute. Andre Schurrle turned cleverly on the edge of the area before pounding a low drive past goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

However, it wasn't all one-way traffic. Five minutes into the second half the visitors were on the score sheet. A cross came in from the right and Jonathan Cristian Silva controlled it well in the box before drilling a low shot home past a despairing Petr Cech.
Chelsea's two-goal lead was restored in the 56th minute. A Fabregas free kick from the left was flicked on by Gary Cahill and John Obi Mikel was on hand at the far post to send it into the back of the net.
Jose Mourinho's charges cruised to victory in the end and were never truly threatened by the visitors, whom they largely nullified throughout the clash.
