Vincent Enyeama Is The Only Super Eagles Player Included In 2014 Goal 50 Award List


Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has been named in 27th position in the 2014 Goal 50, which was released in full on Monday. The 31-year-old is the only Nigerian to be named on the list of the top 50 performers from last season, and the second-ever after Sunday Mba made the list in 2013. Enyeama kept two clean sheets as he helped Nigeria reach the second round at the World Cup in Brazil weighing in with some quality saves.

 For his feat in the French top division, Enyeama was awarded the Marc Vivien Foe prize for best African player in France last season.He also had a great season with his club where he went 1062 minutes without conceding a goal as Lille set up an early challenge for the Ligue 1 title. They eventually finished third and earned a Uefa Champions League spot. 

A colourful character, Enyeama helped Nigeria win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title in South Africa and has grown in confidence since. He was listed among the best goalkeepers at the 2014 World Cup, 12 years after he made his debut in a game against England at Korea/Japan 2002. 

Meanwhile,Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Goal 50 award for the world’s best footballer after a magnificent 2013-14 season. The Real Madrid forward claims the title for the third time in recognition of an incredible campaign during which he led his club to a long-awaited 10th Champions League crown. 

The 29-year-old, who also bagged the Copa del Rey, struck 51 goals in all competitions for his club. The Goal 50 is a prestigious annual award that recognizes and ranks the world’s 50 best footballers of the season.He shared the European Golden Shoe with Luis Suarez and earlier this year picked up the 2013 Fifa Ballon d’Or. 

After receiving the trophy, Ronaldo said: “It’s a very big honour for me to have been chosen as the best player. I’m sincerely grateful. “I’m convinced that I wouldn’t have been able to win this award without the constant support from all the people at Real Madrid.” Previous winners include Wesley Sneijder, Lionel Messi and also Cristiano Ronaldo who claimed his third win on Monday.
