Following our article about great number 10s yesterday, we take a look at the best five number 10s in the world right now.
5. Neymar (Brazil)
Neymar may have to wear the number 11 at Barcelona, where he is still yet to explode. But, he has taken over the number 10 in the Brazilian setup, where he is now his country’s fifth highest goalscorer and is looking to follow in the footsteps of, arguably, the best number 10 ever, Pele.
4. Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich)
The 30-year-old winger wears the number 10 for Bayern Munich and has been one of the most devastating attackers in the world when cutting in from the right wing for his club, as we saw when he scored the winning goal in the 2013 Champions League final.
3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (PSG and Sweden)
The six foot five striker is a real maverick in football. He is unstoppable when on form and has a catalogue of incredible goals. In addition to this, he has won an unreal 11 titles in his previous 12 seasons for various clubs. Factor in his 51 goals for Sweden in 101 appearances and he deserves to be considered as one of the best number 10s out there.
2. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United and England)
Wayne Rooney has been carrying the banner for Manchester United and England for several years now and is the captain of both teams. He scores goals, sets them up and is always willing to put in the hard work to track back. The complete nature of the 29-year-old’s game is unbelievable and, by the time he retires, he could be considered the greatest English player of all time.
1. Lionel Messi (Barcelona and Argentina)
We’ve run out of superlatives to describe the Argentine star and his lists of records, trophies and goals are far too long to describe. In short, he is the highest La Liga goalscorer of all time with 256 strikes, he has won the Champions League title on three occasions and he’s even led his country to the World Cup final in Brazil this summer.
