Frank Lampard scored the only goal of the game to hand Manchester City a 1-0 win over Leicester City at King Power Stadium.
Manuel Pellegrini was dealt a huge blow before the game, as striker Edin Dzeko picked up an injury in the warm up and had to be replaced by José Ángel Pozo.
The game failed to provide a lot of goal-mouth action despite Leicester's domination throughout the first half.
Yaya Toure registered the visitors' first effort on target in the 30th minute, as he forced Hamer into a fine save.
However, the Defending champions took the lead just before the halftime break as Samir Nasri picked out Frank Lampard and the midfielder made no mistake from three-yards out.
City were dealt a blow in the 75th minute as Vincent Kompany had to be substituted with a hamstring injury.
However, Pellegrini's men managed to survive a late surge from the home side to hold on for the three points and keep it in touch with Chelsea.
