English Premiership
Full Time: Arsenal 4-1 Newcastle
Date: 13 December 2014
Venue: Emirates Stadium
A brace each from Olivier Giroud and Santiago Cazorla saw Arsenal to a 4-1 win over Newcastle in an English Premier League match at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The win is Arsenal’s seventh of the season and sees them in sixth place on the table with 26 points from 16 games.
The loss is Newcastle’s fifth of the season and sees them drop to seventh on the table on 23 points.
Giroud opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he powerfully headed home an Alex Sanchez cross, 1-0.
Three minutes later Danny Welbeck thought he had doubled his side’s lead when he was put through on goal, but it was disallowed because he was off-sides.
On the half hour mark Welbeck came close again when his 18-yard half volley skimmed the wrong side of the post.
The half ended 1-0 in favour of Arsenal.
The Gunners doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half when Cazorla latched onto a Sanchez through ball and cleverly chipped the onrushing keeper, 2-0.
Giroud found his side’s third in the 58th minute after another clinical finish after Bellerin put him in behind the Newcastle defence, 3-0.
Newcastle did find a consolation goal in the 63rd minute courtesy of an Ayoze Perez header.
Their joy, though, was short-lived as Arsenal found their fourth goal in 88th minute courtesy of a Cazorla penalty after Welbeck was brought down inside the box, 4-1.
