2015 African Cup Of Nations
Quarterfinal
Full Time: Ghana 3-0 Guinea
Date: 01 February 2015
Venue: Estadio De Malabo
Ghana cruised into the semifinals of the 2015 African Cup of Nations after beating Guinea 3-0 in a quarterfinal match at the Estadio De Malabo on Sunday night.
Ghana started strong a finished strong in the first half, opening the scoring in the fourth minute through Christian Atsu and then doubling their lead a minute before the break courtesy of Kwesi Appiah.
The Black Stars were on the attack from the opening whistle and found the back of the net as early as the fourth minute when Atsu turned the ball home from six-yards out after latching onto a back-heel pass from Mubarak Wakaso, 1-0.
Guinea nearly hit back in the tenth minute through Ibrahima Traore, but his 22-yard free-kick from the right edge of the box struck the side-netting.
Chances on goal were few and far between after that as Guinea attacked, but the Ghana defence held firm.
The Black Stars sat back in defence and almost hit on the counter-attack in the 38thminute when Asamoah Gyan broke forward, but saw his effort from just inside the box brilliantly saved by Naby Yattara.
In the 44th minute Ghana did double their lead after a defensive blunder allowed Appiah to find himself in a one-on-one with the keeper and he calmly passed the ball into the back of the net, 2-0.
The result was put beyond doubt on the hour mark after a goal out of the top draw from Astu saw Ghana go 3-0 up when he fired the ball home from a difficult angle, 24-yards out, on the right-side of the box.
Gyan should really have scored the Black Stars’ fourth goal in the 72nd minute when he met a left-sided cross with a strong header, but his effort skimmed the wrong side of the crossbar.
Ghana slowed the game down after that and shut up shop at the back as they moved into the semifinals of Afcon 2015.
It was horrible ending to the game for Guinea as Naby Yattara was given a straight red in the dying seconds of the game after bringing down Gyan outside the box.
