SUPER Eagles skipper Vincent Enyeama has broken last years’ French goalkeeping record for going the longest time without conceding a goal after maintaining a clean sheet when his Lille beat Marseille 1-0 on Tuesday. In an unprecedented run, Nigeria’s goalkeeper Enyeama has now kept 14 clean sheets in 16 matches after managing to keep Marseille out. Lille are now second in the French league and within a point of star-studded leaders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Following Tuesday’s heroics, Enyeama has now surpassed Italian goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu of PSG’ record of going 950 minutes without conceding a goal. Set only a year ago, Sirigu’s clean sheet record set between November 17, 2012 and February 8, 2013 was second in League One’s all-time ranking. So far this season, Enyeama has played 1,260 minutes without conceding a goal and Tuesday celebrated his 11th consecutive clean sheet. He is now just 140 minutes away from creating an all-time record of consecutive clean-sheets held by Bordeaux goalkeeper Gaëtan Huard. Enyeama only needs to keep Bastia out, and deny PSG for 52 minutes in Lille’s next two matches to smash another record.
