Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes the World Cup will be “nothing” without him in it.
Sweden’s hopes of qualifying for Brazil next year were dashed by a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick last night for Portugal.
After the game, Ibrahimovic, who scored twice on the night, said it would probably be his last chance to qualify for the World Cup and insisted it was “not worth while to wait for the World Cup” without him in it.
“It was probably the last attempt to reach the World Cup with the national team for me,” he said “One thing is for sure, a World Cup without me is nothing to watch so it is not worthwhile to wait for the World Cup.”
But he also made a point of congratulating Portugal on their achievement.
“Congratulations to Portugal but both teams deserved to get to the World Cup. The disappointment of course is great now that the World Cup in Brazil will remain a dream for the Swedish national team.”
Fortunately for Zlatan, he has played in the World Cup before. He made two substitute appearances in 2002 and started three times in 2006.
