I Know He’s Wasting His Potential, He’ll Regret It – Italian Coaching Legend On Mario Balotelli

Former Italy and Republic of Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni feels Mario Balotelli is wasting his potential and is set to end up with only regrets when he retires.

Balotelli joined Liverpool from AC Milan for £16m in the summer in a move which was widely seen as his last chance at a big club, following controversial stints with the Rossoneri, Manchester City and Inter.

He has struggled at Anfield though and has yet to score in the Premier League for his new club, attracting criticism for a number of seemingly disinterested performances.

For Trapattoni, Balotelli is wasting his career and heading for a lifetime of regrets.

"I do not know how Balotelli's career will play out, but I know he will realise that he has wasted a lot of potential", the 75-year-old told La Nazione.

"He will realise it once he has retired."

Balotelli is currently subject to an English Football Association charge for posting an image on social media which has been alleged to be racist and anti-Semitic in nature.
