Diego Costa Will Play Against Arsenal Regardless of Spain Call – Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho

Diego Costa will play against Arsenal, regardless of the fact he has been called up to the Spain squad, manager Jose Mourinho has insisted.

The striker has been struggling with injury, but turned out for Chelsea against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League in midweek.

Mourinho suggested that Costa would benefit from being left out of the Spain squad in order that he could get back to full fitness. But he has been included by La Roja.

And a disappointed Mourinho stressed that does not change his plans with regards to Costa taking on Arsenal this weekend, even if a run of games could prove to be too much for the striker to handle.

My reaction to the news that he is in the Spanish squad is no reaction", Mourinho told a press conference.

"It's already something I could imagine. It's not a surprise for me.

"Can he play three matches in a week? I think it's too much.

"But he will do that because I'm not going to save him to be in perfect condition for the national team. If he has a problem playing against Arsenal, he has a problem playing for Chelsea.

"He can play against Arsenal. He had the match in Lisbon, he had four days in between, he will be in okay condition to play against Arsenal.

"What happens after that in the 15 days is not for me, it's not my responsibility.

"I will have the consequences of that, like all the other coaches who have players in national teams."

Costa has so far scored eight goals for Chelsea in the Premier League, helping the Blues to sit top of the table, while the Spaniard also leads the scoring charts.
