Venue: Anfield
Liverpool were sent packing from the UEFA Champions League after drawing 1-1 with Basel in a Group B match at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Liverpool had to win to ensure they earned a place in the knockout stages of the competition, but were unable to do so as Basel finished second in the group with seven points.
The draw for Liverpool sees them finish third in Group B with five points and will now take part in the Europa League.
It was a cagey start to the game with both sides feeling each other out.
The first chance on goal went the way of Basel in the 13th minute when Shkelzen Gashi fired into the side netting from 14-yards out.
Basel then opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Fabian Frei fired a low 22-yard shot into the corner of the net, 1-0.
In the 33rd minute Basel should have made it two when Marco Streller met a corner-kick with a fierce volley, but his effort skimmed the wrong side of the post from just inside the box.

The half ended with Basel leading by a single goal.
The start of the second half was poor and produced very little chances in front of goal.
Liverpool suffered a big set-back on the hour mark when Lazar Markovi was shown a straight red card for a hand in the face of Behrang Safari.
Despite going a man down Liverpool did find an equaliser in the 81st minute courtesy of captain Steven Gerrard who found the back of the net with superb 22-yard free-kick, 1-1.
That set up an exciting final ten minutes, but Basel were able to hold on for the draw and place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
