EPL Match Report: Arsenal 5-0 Aston Villa 01 February 2015
Arsenal claimed a 5-0 win over struggling Aston Villa at the Emirates to move up to fifth in the league standings.
The Gunners opened the scoring in the eighth minute, as Olivier Giroud latched onto a delightful flick from Mesut Ozil before finishing into the far corner.
The home side dominated proceedings for large parts of the opening 30 minutes and nearly doubled their lead in the 26th but Santi Cazorla rattled the upright from the edge of the area.
Villa only managed to create one opening in the first half, as Andreas Wiemann's glancing header was parried away by David Ospina.
The Gunners then doubled their lead 10 minutes after the halftime break, as Giroud turned provider to play in Ozil, who calmly slotted into the far post.
Theo Walcott added a third for the hosts in the 63rd minute, the winger collected a pass from Cazorla before curling the ball beyond Brad Guzan.
Santi Cazorla got Arsenal's fourth, the scoring in the 74th minute from the penalty spot, after Chuba Akpom had been brouht down by Guzan.
There was still enough time for Arsene Wenger's men to add a fifth thanks to wonderful finish from Hector Bellerin.
