It has never been in doubt players Nigeria possesses, what has however been the greatest downfall of the country is taking the very best to go represent the country on the global stage. Steven Keshi has the chance to a new height with his current squad and wit a pool of local and international stars the Big Boss will need to select the very best.
IKECHUKWU UCHE
Ikechukwu has been in blistering form this season scoring in 12 goals in his 25 appearances this season. That would surely be a man most managers would love to have on their bench should our number one choice Emanuel Eminike who hasn’t scored in his last 5 matches fail to perform when we need the goals. More so Uche gives more than one option to any manager he works with, his blistering speed and dribbling skills makes him a capable second striker and wing man when required. This would definitely be an asset for the super eagles when they go against the likes of…. Who can retain a lead when they need it.
PETER ODEMWINGE
Odemwinge has been one of the focal points of Steve Bruce’s team this season plying a majority of their games since his January move from Cardiff city. Odemwinge has mostly been deployed as a wing man, driving in from the left and right hand of the field. It has seen him excel this term; with 4 goals and one assist from his 14 appearances. His pass accuracy has also improved moving from the 71.2% he had at Cardiff city to 80% currently. With Moses lingering on in the stance for Liverpool, Odemwinge would definetly be a good addition to the African champions in brazil.
TAIYE TAIWO
Taiye taiwo has been a regular for Nigeria at every level. With more than 50 caps for Nigeria Elderson Echedile will need some competition especially from a veteran as Taiwo. Taiwo’s attacking abilities has been something lacking in Echedile’s game and he also has the extra to give should Nigeria need a bullet a freekick either close range or not.
There are still speculations as to what Keshi’s final decisions will be but some players may need to be recalled if the “Big Boss” wants to have a better showing than what his side did during the confederations cup. A lot is expected of the African champions and for a team as successful as Nigeria is on the junior level it is time we replicate it at the top level.
