Nigerian footbal coach; Keshi’s Comments On Super Eagles Performance Against South Africa

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has defended the goalless draw played on Wednesday night between the Eagles and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the Cape Town Stadium in Match Day 2 of the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The African champions risk not qualifying for the tournament in Morocco in 2015 where they are expected to defend their title won in 2013, but Keshi insists he was satisfied by the performance of his players.

Keshi who admitted to have seen just “a short clip” of the Sudan versus South Africa while his South African counterpart, Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba revealed that “we worked on all the Nigerian players” gave reason why his below-par Eagles are not flying high while he spoke to reporters after the game.

”We have not been together and it is taking time to gel,” Keshi offered. “I’m not satisfied, but I liked what I saw today (of my team). Nigeria now have just 12 points to play for from a possible 18 and will play Sudan both home and away in October.

Congo who were not initially in the race for the 2015 AFCON defeated Sudan 2-0 at home also on Wednesday and will play South Africa in two-legged fixtures in October.

Two wins in those games would virtually confirm Congo as qualifying for the Nations Cup next year, leaving South Africa and Nigeria to fight for the second ticket from the group.
