Everton manager Roberto Martinez was extremely pleased after beating Wolfsburg 4-1 in the Europa League fixture on Thursday night, Sky Sports reports.
The Toffees got off to a great start when Wolfsburg’s Swiss international Ricardo Rodriguez turned in an own goal, and then marauding full-back Seamus Coleman grabbed the second right before the stroke of half-time.
Leigton Baines added a third from the spot, and Kevin Mirallas put the icing on the cake in the 89th minute.
The Bundesliga side did manage to get a consolation from Rodriguez with a late free-kick, but that won’t bother Martinez who was delighted with the performance.
“It was a really good evening,” said Martinez. “I thought we did a lot of talking about European nights at Goodison and it was phenomenal to see the fans and it was pleasing to finish with that scoreline.
“It’s fair to say Wolfsburg have energy so we stopped their pressure and if you stop that you stop them being a real threat.
“We tried to play through them and use the gaps. We used our pressure better than them and got some opportunities by being well organised.
“It was a really open game between teams who wanted to get on the ball and the fans enjoy watching us play.”
Everton face Crystal Palace in their next Premier League fixture this coming Sunday.
