Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that Manchester United are unable to afford his players,Daily Mail reports.
United boss Louis van Gaal was extremely interested in signing the likes of Arjen Robben, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Thomas Muller over the summer, but Guardiola believes the trio is not interested in playing in the Premier League.
When prompted during Bayern’s press conference over whether he said no to Van Gaal, Guardio replied: “They [United] didn’t have enough money.
“I saw they spent a lot of money. It’s good for my friend Louis. It’s part of the game.
“All of the clubs in the world want the players of another club. It depends on the player. If the player wants to play he will play. If he wants to stay he will stay.”
The former Barcelona coach was then asked for his views on Man United’s seventh place finish last season, which caused them a place in the UEFA Champions League.
“It’s a good lesson for the big clubs.
“They think: ‘We are unbeatable and strong’ and they are not here. Maybe the next season they are out.
“That’s why football is magnificent.
“Every single week you have to be ready. Every week you have got to show you are ready.”
The Bundesliga champions kick off their Champions League campaign against United’s city rivals Manchester City on Wednesday night.
